Chairman's Review of 2009

During 2009 the Friends have continued to make a significant contribution to the church, with benefits that should last for decades. The most costly by far has been to the new heating system, this year £13,000, making £23,465 over two years. We have contributed £1404 towards the refurbishment of the servery and have set aside a further £3,000 for the refurbishment of the toilet and the redecoration of the whole space under the tower. The remainder of the £15,832 we paid to the PCC was for sundry less costly items, such as the whimsical elephant posts, which go so well with the humour of the grotesques.

Memories of the Pig Roasts and Salad Days

Aim:
  • An alfresco summer family occasion, with provision for shelter in the event of inclement weather, at a nearby venue accessible to all and open to all; tickets to be bought in advance!

Result

  • The Pig Roast. An event which was to stand us in good stead for the next decade.

  • A venue and view which could not be beaten! next to Sudeley Lodge.

  • A family welcome – And a committee member on the spot!

Chairman's Review of 2008

Where would St Peter’s be without the Friends? Each year our indebtedness to those who brought the Friends to birth increases. We were established in 1996 to advance the Christian religion in particular by the preservation, repair and maintenance of the fabric of St Peter’s, its monuments, furnishings and its churchyard.

Highlights of 2007

Our regular meetings and social occasions fell into their familiar pattern as the celebration of Winchcombe Abbey's 1200th Anniversary faded, living on in plans being drawn up for the inclusion of some of the displays in the re-ordering of the west-end of St Peter's.  2007 AD was the millennium of the creation of Winchcombeshire, and the Friends were able to help from time to time with their events, as any resulting proceeds were designated to benefit the restoration of the church's long-defunct Chime Machine.
